Installation Guide

The current image (2026-10-26) ships crash watch with the diagnose-crash skill; desktops are limited to Plasma and COSMIC, plus two headless sizes (full toolset / minimal). See the download page for files and checksums. Full installation steps follow.

The first Experimental Stable (2026-08-14) passed full installation testing (all first-party software installs with zero errors, signed repository usable) and is the current available build. See linxira-iso GitHub Releases for download and distribution details. Full installation steps follow.

Current ISO filename linxira-2026.10.26-x86_64.iso (~5.0 GB, SHA-256 4111d82b033293c85f7a11c609fc777a367799488e576771d4d39bfcbe43d09e). Verify the SHA-256 before installing.

Creating Bootable Media

Windows

Use Rufus or balenaEtcher:

• Insert a USB drive with at least 8 GB of space
• Open Rufus
• Select the downloaded ISO file
• Select your USB device
• Click "Start"

Linux

sudo dd if=linxira-*.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M status=progress

Planned Installer

The Direct Arch Live image boots into a complete Plasma desktop and opens Linxira Welcome automatically. Calamares does not auto-start: launch it manually from Welcome or the application menu when you are ready. The expected flow is:

1. Boot from the USB drive
2. Open "Install Linxira OS" in Welcome or the application menu
3. Choose your language and keyboard layout
4. Select a partitioning scheme. btrfs with Timeshift is recommended.
5. Choose optional reviewed profiles from catalog v3 and create your user account
6. Wait for the installer to finish
7. Restart the system and remove the USB drive

After first boot, use Package Center for graphical package management.

Dual-boot with Windows

The installer offers "install alongside Windows", but prepare on the Windows side first:

• Disable Windows Fast Startup and shut down fully (not hibernate)
• If BitLocker is on, suspend protection until the install finishes
• Disable Secure Boot (this image ships no signed boot chain)
• Switch Intel RST / RAID to AHCI if enabled

Pick "alongside" during install; the installer shrinks the NTFS partition and creates btrfs. GRUB then lists Windows through os-prober, which the target installs by default.
